Fit Quiz for Shopify: Mapping rules

A simpler and an automatic way to enable Fit Quiz on new products

Updated over a week ago

"Mapping rules" is a new feature that simplifies the process of updating Fit Quiz when you have a lot of products in your catalog and frequent collection updates.

Fit Quiz requires products to have an assigned category and a size model to provide a size recommendation. Typically, both categories and size models are assigned by selecting one or multiple products on the "Product Mapping" table in the Fit Quiz Shopify app.

Mapping rules have been designed to eliminate this manual work and ensure 100% product support by Fit Quiz at all times, for all your products.

How do Mapping rules work?

Mapping rules use Shopify attributes such as Product title and tags to automatically map product to a Fit Quiz category and/or a Fit Quiz size model.

These rules are then used to automatically identify the correct category and size model for a given product. This ensures that Fit Quiz is active on the product page and uses the correct product information for the size recommendation.

Tags are already widely used by Shopify shops and by other third-party services. You can either use existing Shopify tags or create new ones for Mapping rules.

Getting started

Mapping rules can be enabled directly in the Fit Quiz Shopify app. Simply open the app and navigate to the "Settings" page. You will find "Mapping rules" under "Configuration".

Once on the "Mapping rules" page, click "Turn on".

After turning it on, you will see separate sections for rules for categories and size models.

Mapping rules for Categories

All the rules use a simple "IF" <> "THEN" logic – you can select a Shopify attribute, add a condition and a value and, finally, select a category that should be used for Mapping.

Adding a new rule

To add a new rule, start by clicking the "Add new rule" button. You can then specify how the rule should function:

  1. Shopify attribute – choose "Product title" (a name/title of a product used in your store) or "Product tag" (a Shopify tag connected to a product)

  2. Condition – choose "Contains" or "Is exactly"

  3. Value – here you can add any text that will be used to search for across tags or titles

  4. Fit Quiz category – you should see all categories, that were selected on the "Categories" screen. If you're missing a category or wish to add more categories, please go to "Settings" and open "Categories" to add new categories

Click "Save" before closing the page.

Example: Mapping rules for Categories

Let's say, you want to automatically map all new hoodies to the "Hoodies & Sweatshirts" Fit Quiz category. You know, that products in your store have descriptive titles and will have a word "hoodie" in them. You can then set up a mapping rule where:

  • Shopify Attribute = Product title

  • Condition = Contains

  • Value = Hoodie

  • Fit Quiz Category = Hoodies & Sweatshirts

Deleting an existing rule

You can delete an active rule by finding it under the "Active rules" and clicking the trashcan icon located on the right side.

Mapping rules for Size Models

Similarly to Mapping rules for Categories, you can create rules to automatically map products to a standard or a custom size model.

Adding a new rule

To add a new rule, start by clicking the "Add new rule" button. You can then specify how the rule should function. This is exactly the same as the rules for categories, with an exception of the final result being a size model and not a category.

Click "Save" before closing the page.

Example: Mapping rules for Size Models

Let's say, you Shopify tags, such as "sizetrue" to flag products that fit true to size. You can then set up a mapping rule to automatically map such products to the standard "True to size" model where:

  • Shopify Attribute = Product tag

  • Condition = Contains

  • Value = sizetrue

  • Fit Quiz Category = True to size

Similarly, let's say, that products in your store have descriptive titles and have a word "oversized" in them to reflect products' fitting. You created a custom size model to reflect this oversized fitting and called it "baggy jeans". You can now set up a mapping rule where:

  • Shopify Attribute = Product title

  • Condition = Contains

  • Value = Oversized

  • Fit Quiz Category = Baggy jeans

Deleting an existing rule

Just like with the rules for categories, you can delete an active rule by finding it under the "Active rules" and clicking the trashcan icon located on the right side.

Activating Mapping rules

Mapping rules are activated every time your product catalog is synced or resynced within Fit Quiz. It's a semi-automated process, as Fit Quiz would do this periodically. However, if you'd like to see the changes immediately, you can simply open the "Product Mapping" page and click "Resync catalog".

Changing and managing Mapping rules

If you need to adjust any of the Mapping rules for a category or size model, you can delete, edit or create new rules directly on the "Mapping rules" screen. Once saved, these rules will be deployed right away and activated next time your product catalog is synced.

Alternatively, you make changes directly in the "Mapping" table in the Fit Quiz Shopify app. Select products you want to modify and re-assign them to a new category or sizing model.
